A summer to remember…

Fall seems to be arriving faster than expected, don’t you think? We just got used to those warm summer evenings, when sitting outside – on a balcony, in a cafe, or by the lake – seemed like the best moment of your life. And then, suddenly, those very evenings got, well, colder. September always sounds alarming, in a way. Kids go back to school, people get back from holidays, the madness of fashion weeks kicks in – there is this prevailing aura of urgency in the air. Things need to be done, and they need to be done NOW.

Well, before we all switch on the work mode, perform a wardrobe overhaul and pull out those knee boots out of the darkest depths of the closet – I am taking a moment to reminisce about my summer trips. Looking back at those past few months I realized I’ve been to quite a few beautiful places, the memory of which will be fueling my batteries during those long, less sunny, winter months. After all, isn’t life about collecting memories?

Where creativity is born

I am always amazed at how children employ their creative skills – be it in asking the most unusual questions, coming up with the simplest yet smartest solutions, or creating something out of nothing. I love watching their innocent, free way of thinking, which is yet untouched by guidance and regulations the adult life will, sooner or later, impose on them.

Therefore, I was truly excited when we were preparing our visit to the SOS Children’s Village summer camp, as part of the Louis Vuitton global initiative, now also launched in Poland. Guided by Louis Vuitton’s values, we decided to organize something inspiring, something which would allow the children to think outside the box and come up with truly creative ideas.

After much deliberation, we agreed on running a fashion workshop, followed by a catwalk show. From start to finish, the activity was supervised by three members of the Louis Vuitton team – Kinga, Magda and Pawel. I really enjoyed watching them cooperate with children and allow them to own their ideas. It was very inspiring. While everyone was busy working, I was busy documenting the results of their work. What you can see below is the work in progress and final results of five teams of children age 10-16, who were provided with exactly the same set of assets (paper, ribbons, glue, scissors, etc.) and came up with five totally different looks. We were truly amazed at the outcome of the workshop – I don’t think we expected such original, different and really interesting results.

It was a wonderful day, which has already become a very special memory to cherish. We spend a wonderful quality time with the kids, learned a lot and came back home full of good vibes. Have a look at the pictures below, I hope they reflect the spirit of that amazing adventure…

Wróciliśmy do Warszawy pełni dobrej energii.

This initiative is part of a five-year commitment to SOS Children’s Villages begun by Louis Vuitton in 2010, which aims to offer a better life to deprived children all over the world. More than 3 million euros have been donated across 30 countries since the beginning of the partnership, which has seen the creation and refurbishment of play areas, the introduction of university grant and educational programs, and support for family strengthening programs which support families where children risk being abandoned. These and many other valuable projects have made a real difference to hundreds of children’s lives. The cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages in Poland started in 2013 and we have already carried through a few projects dedicated to improving children’s every day lives and helping boost their creative skills.
